Grand Challenge in Dialysis Access Synergy 2019

We are inviting presentations in these two themes :

1.   Challenging hemodialysis access creation

2.   Dialysis access service program that makes an impact

All submissions are assured of the opportunity of a podium presentation.

A certificate of appreciation will be given to all participants of the competition.

The two themes are:

1. Challenging hemodialysis access creation

  • This can be native vein AVF or artificial conduit AVG creation.

  • The clinician is able to show under a challenging condition (either patient's anatomical, physiological or other medical conditions that renders conventional hemodialysis access impossible or high risk), able to design and create a hemodialysis access that is complication free, functional and reasonably long lasting.

  • Not necessarily the most technically difficult operation.

No clinician's name, institution or country shall be displayed inside the presentation.

Presenter's appearance will also be blinded to the judge panel during the presentation and Q&A session of the first stage of the competition, so as to maximally ensure the marks given by the judges are based solely on the content of the presentation.

Each participant has 9 minutes presentation time and 3 minutes Q&A time. The judge panel will provide 2 minutes feedback towards the end. The first stage competition will be held on 28 March 2019 in the afternoon.

The 2 highest score participants will make the presentation again in the main conference, held on 29 to 30 March 2019, to compete for the final Champion. Marks will be given by the judge panel and conference delegates, done through real-time voting.

The champion will receive a traveling scholar sponsorship of SGD 1,000 to support the travelling expenses of visiting one of the faculty members' institution (the champion’s choice). The first runner up will receive a traveling scholar sponsorship of SGD 600.

2. Dialysis access service program that makes an impact

  • Tell us how the newly established or reformed dialysis access program in your practice makes an impact on service quality, patients' outcomes, patients' satisfaction or medical resource consumption of the institution/region.

  • The service program could be on peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis or both.

  • As the service program is institution and country orientated, there will not be any blinding of participant’s institution and country of practice.

Each participant has 9 minutes presentation time and 3 minutes Q&A time. The judge panel will provide 2 minutes feedback towards the end. The first stage of the competition will be held on 28 March 2019.
